Our Story

I've been running Wesley Scott's since 2019.

Why dresses

Because a dress is the only thing in your closet that's already a whole outfit.

Nothing to match. Nothing to coordinate. No standing in front of the mirror at seven in the morning trying to figure out whether this top goes with those pants.

You put it on, and you're dressed. And you look like you tried—even on the mornings when you didn't have it in you to try.

And it should still be easy after you take it off

Nothing in this shop needs a dry cleaner. Nothing has to be hand-washed, laid flat to dry, or ironed before you can wear it a second time. If a dress can't go in a machine, I don't buy it—however good it looks on the hanger.

A dress you have to make an appointment for isn't a dress. It's a chore you paid for.

Why the fit matters to me

I've been almost every size in this shop.

I was small until I was twenty-one. Then came marriage, a pregnancy, and a body I spent a long time not being kind to. Then it changed again, and I had to learn it all over.

Here's what I took from that: when your body isn't the one you had last year, getting dressed stops being simple. Separates turn into a daily argument with yourself—two sizes, two fit problems, and a mirror keeping score. A dress asks less of you.

So when I say we go through 2XL, I don't mean it as a category. I've shopped at most of those sizes myself, and I stock what I would have wanted to find.

How I choose

I'm not a designer, and I don't run a factory. I'm a buyer. I look at a great many dresses and turn down almost all of them.

Three things have to be true before a piece makes it in:

I have to be able to see myself in it.
Sometimes that's a Tuesday at work. Sometimes it's somewhere I've only been in my dreams. Both count—but it has to be a dress I'd actually put on.

It has to work more than once.
If it only goes to one event, it isn't worth the closet space.

It has to be easy to live with.
Machine washable, or I don't buy it.

Who I have in mind

The woman who has somewhere to be—work, church, her niece's wedding in June—and about four minutes to decide what to wear.

Whose body has changed at least once, so the clothes that used to work don't anymore. Who has a closet full of separates that almost coordinate and never get worn. And who is not going to hand-wash anything, ever, no matter what the label says.

She usually reaches for a maxi, and I understand why. It flows instead of clinging. It works on the days you feel good about yourself and the days you don't. It's the most forgiving thing in the shop, which is why it's the thing I keep coming back to.

If that's you, I've spent seven years shopping for you, and challenge you to try something new as well.

What you can count on

Every order is pulled and inspected by hand before it ships. I'd rather hold your order for a day than send you something I wouldn't wear myself.

You have thirty days to change your mind. Exchanges are always free. If the size isn't right, we'll fix it.
